NEW MUSIC: TAMAR BRAXTON: LOVE & WAR.

Say what you want about Tamar Braxton: she may be over the top and dramatic, but the girl can SANG
Early this morning, Tamar released the first single to her album (expected to drop early 2013) called Love & War. No doubt inspired by the relationship with her and her husband, the big name in music (Producer, Writer, Manager of Lady Gaga) Vincent Herbert.
Tamar gives us her soprano and smooth runs on this mid-tempo track, written by Leshawn Daniels, who's written for a lot of the big names in the industry today (Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Brandy ...)
Although Tamar has been deemed the playful diva of both WEtv's Braxton Family Values and spin-off with her husband, Tamar and Vince, it seems that she's serious about her music.
What do you think? Can she get away from the tagline "Toni Braxton's little sister" and breakaway cleanly with her own musical career?
I personally think so. The girl's range is incredible. Kudos to you, Tamar! Reddlipstick Approved.

Not Convinced? Here are some other videos of Tamar singing:

Interview W/ Elle Varner!

23 year old Gabrielle Varner, singer of "Refill" and "I Only Wanna Give It To You", graced the presence of my University last night for Homecoming! We were super excited to have her!

I had the pleasure of talking to Ms. Varner about her music, her possible upcoming single, being bullied, her relationship status and she even hit her Whistle Register for me! (The highest note on the piano-Mariah Carey does it all of the time).

And Ladies, you KNOW I had to ask her about her Natural Hair Care Regimen. What does she use on those curls?

Read&Indulge.

ONE WEEK UPDATE: Sheena's Hair Emporium Virgin Indian Curly!

Hey Reddlipstick Readers!

So, I've had this hair installed for a couple of weeks (1 week exactly when I recorded the video.) and I'm really loving it! It's low maintenance, and the curl pattern is beautiful.

When I first got the hair installed, I got ALL 3 Bundles (16, 18, 20) put in, and I thought I looked wild. It looked like soo much hair on my head! So different than anything else I've had. But I've gotten used to it and I REALLY love it!

My only real problem with the hair is figuring out how to blend my natural hair into the curl pattern. I've tried everything: From Bantu Knots, to Flexi Rods, Two-Strand Twists, Cloth-Clip-Roller-Thingies.. nothing really works.

The only thing that kind of works is the crimping iron

Zoe Saldana Cast to Portray Nina Simone? WTF?

*My impromptu, unpolished reaction to Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone in a film*

Say it isn't so. Now, if you all have been reading my blog over the years, you know that I hate the color barriers that Blacks put on other Blacks. "Dark Skinned women are mean, all light skinned women aren't cute," you know, that sort of thing. I was in a one man argument when Essence Magazine did their "Celebrating Women of Color" photo shoot and didn't include one light skinned female. It should be equal.

BUT, this is ridiculous. Nina Simone, as you all know was the sassy, soulful singer from the 60s. With her lyrics celebrating her full lips, curvy hips, dark skin and nappy hair, you would think that Hollywood would the decency to cast someone who at least matched that description. so we could see the familiarity when we watch the movie. But Zoe Saldana? I respect her as a minority and a great female actress, but this is a women who identifies herself as Latina, AND NOT of African descent, celebrates her SLENDER frame with a lighter complexion.  This is a direct contrast to the late singer.

Lessons Learned From Karrueche

"Is There Such A Thing As Loving Two People?"

Is the question that Chris Brown poses on his mini-documentary that aired a few days after him and his girlfriend Karrueche called it quits. Needless to say, the break up stirred twitter and every other social network; some people calling it sad for Karrueche, other's feeling terrible for CB, and even some hating Rihanna for playing homewrecker.

Here's my thing: obviously a break up is never fun, and while my heart goes out to Karrueche (all three of them really), can you really feel totally and completely sorry for her?

Let me explain.

Zani Hair Company Final Review : Virgin Brazilian Body Wave

I've been in the reviewing mood lately! This review is of the Virgin Brazilian Body Wave I have installed, 2 bundles of 16 inches from Zani Hair Company. I've had it in for about a month and a half now. I'm not a hair guru or "weaveologist", just trying out protective styles because as of Dec. 2011, I've been transitioning into going Natural!

Shipping/Packaging: Was cool. I ordered on a Friday and received the hair that following Weds. or Thurs. The hair came tied with purple ribbon, and she included a hair care/instructions sheet.

Pros: The hair is really soft and low maintenance. Blends in really well with my natural hair. Her customer service was great, she was very helpful. The price of the hair was reasonable as well.

Cons: The hair did have a distinct smell. It went away with washing but came back when hair was wet or when I sweated in my hair. Also, the initial wave pattern went away when I washed my hair for the first time. I liked that better, so I'm not sure if this is a "con."

Overall: Hair is pretty nice. I would recommend it to somebody. I would give the hair 4 out of 5 ReddLips!

This was my 1st experience with Virgin Hair, what should I look for next time? Leave comments below!
xoxo!

Designs By Dayy Phone Case Initial Review!

Hey Reddlipstick Readers! I reviewed a phone case for y'all from designsbydayy.com.

The case was delivered Monday and received on Wednesday, so that's an A+ for shipping (which was said to be 2-3 business days).
I love the fact that the case came with a Thank You Card and a small gift! Soo thoughtful.
She designs for ALL phone cases, and iPads. She also does custom cases.
The case is true to life, VERY pretty. The only problem so far is that it doesn't cover or protect the front of the phone. BUT, it is a fashionable case, not solely meant to protect. Also, she has different case designs, some including front pieces.
This was just the INITIAL review, so I haven't had it long enough to see how it holds up over time.
ALL IN ALL, it was 5 out of 5 ReddLips! Definitely love the design.
Cases are $50, and I do believe they are worth it.
Check them out HERE: designsbydayy.com

Voting 101 With Bakari Sellers

With the Democratic National Convention being held in Charlotte, NC this week and the Presidential Election being right around the corner, I felt like it was important to not only keep my readers entertained, but INFORMED about the importance of voting!
I talked with Morehouse Graduate, House of  Representative Member AND First Vice Chairman of the SC Democratic Political Party, 27-year-old Bakari Sellers. Read&Indulge as he talks about the importance of being informed, voting, and his personal opinions about the race.

I: A lot of the people voting this time around are first-time voters, some just turning 18, and some are just getting registered. Why do you think it’s so important young adults ages 18-22 to vote?
B: 2008 was just the beginning. We need to make sure that it’s more for the good of country, something as simple as Pell Grants. We need to make sure that we are very vocal..because every vote really does matter, that’s not rhetoric at all, that’s the truth. We need to make sure that we are part of the process. If we aren’t apart of the process, our voice won’t be heard on Election Day.

I: That brings me to my next question; a lot of people choose not to vote because they feel as if their vote doesn't count. What do you think about that?

Q&A with Empire Girl: Adrienne Bailon!

As a former member of girl groups 3LW and The Cheetah Girls, Adrienne Bailon is no stranger to the industry. However, this 28 year old Latina Beauty continues to make a name for herself as she pursues her solo career with the help of Singer/Songwriter/Producer Ne-Yo, launches her nail polish line, clothing line.. and even more; all while she stars alongside Julissa Bermudez in the Style Network's Reality Series, Empire Girls.

Read&Indulge as we talk about being an Empire Girl, Empowerment, and all of the upcoming projects Adrienne has up her sleeve.

I: I was watching Empire Girls a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed you and Julissa have great chemistry. Your personalities are so opposite sometimes, it kind of balances out. It looks so natural the way you guys communicate, how long have y’all been friends before the show?
A: Juli and I have actually been friends for almost 10 years. We met in casting at a BET event; when I first met Juli she was the host of BET’s The Center, and I was in 3LW at the time. So we’d go to a lot of the same music industry events. So I met her in passing around that time, and then maybe a year later we actually filmed a movie together called “All You’ve Got,” it was an MTV movie, and that’s when we actually became friends. We became really close friends, because you know, we were filming together.. It was like a really, really great time for us to bond and become friends. Literally, we became so close so quickly that we ended up sharing a trailer. We asked to put our clothes in the same trailer and ended up sharing a trailer.

I Don't See Anything Wrong With Marrying Early.

With celebrities like 19 year old Miley Cyrus just announcing her engagement to 22 year old actor Liam Hemsworth and 19 year old singer Tiffany Evans, announcing that not only was she married since she was 17, but is also expecting, you can cue the elders saying that they are too young to get married, they don't know want their doing, they need to experience life, blahze', blahze', blahze.
I don't see anything wrong with two people wanting to get married early.
My question to you is, why does it seem like people want you to do everything in the world, and THEN get married?
People treat marriage as if it's the beginning of the school year after a long, fun summer vacation.
I'm just gonna hit a few key-points.
Mind you, no I am not married and don't have any immediate plans to. This is just my opinion.

Spice Girls Reuniting?!

This wouldn't be a blog based on Bold Femininity if I didn't report that the Ultimate Girl Group based on Girl Power, the Spice Girls, is coming together to make a musical, "Viva Forever".

And I'd be lying if I said I didn't spend hours of my childhood dancing to their songs, playing with the Scary Spice Doll, and watching my "Spice World" movie on VHS.

Viva Forever, from what I'm hearing is supposed to be something of a musical very loosely based on the real life of the group. I'm excited. Even Ginger Spice is making her appearance again. This is the first time the whole group has been seen together since there 2007 World Tour.

This musical opens Dec. 11 in London's Piccadilly Theater. What they need to do is either A. Bring it on over to Broadway, or B. Make a live concert movie out of it. Something. Because I doubt that I will be in London in December to see it :(

Still it's nice to see all 5 girls together again. Excuse me while I find my Spice World tape.

A little blast from the past for you:

Being A Mass Communications Major is NOT easy.

One thing I hate is the downplaying of the difficulty of my major, Mass Communications. I know at the end of the day you aren't supposed to care about what people think, but I didn't spend all this time perfecting and learning more about my craft (and I DEFINITELY didn't spend all that tuition) for people to downplay it like it's one of those majors that people just use to get a degree.

During my matriculation at my university, I've heard of alot of people switch their majors from Biology Computer Science, and Business to Mass Communications, simply because "We don't do anything," and "It's so easy." Excuse me?

Where did you get this laughable ignorance?

"Mercy" Sample. What is he saying?

Whenever you're somewhere and you hear the beginning of "Mercy"[Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz] start, it's usually a bunch of people making their own nonsense words to the man yelling in the beginning. People really don't become audible until the beat drops

The man yelling in the beginning is Fuzzy Jones, the late dance-hall legend, who's audio was used at the beginning of Super Beagle's song "Dust a Soundboy"

He's saying:
Well it's a weeping and a mourning and a gnashing of teeth!
Well it's a weeping and a mourning and a gnashing of teeth!
When it comes to my sound, which is the champion sound. Believe.

And right before Kanye's Verse..
WELL—It is a weeping and a moaning and a gnashing of teeth in the dancehall—and who no have teeth gwine run pon them gums. Caw when time it comes to my sound, which is the champion sound, the bugle has blown so many times, and it still have one more time left, caw the amount of stripe weh deh pon our shoulder. Nah bother sound test we, and them can’t test we. COME Super Beagle and your girl!”

And there you have it.

REDD'S RUNWAY: AEHTELAYT

Now, for the past two features on the Runway of The Reddlipstick Blog, I've focused on brands that use simplicity to get their messages across. This weeks' brand uses a different approach.

Aehtelayt, which is the founder's [Tyalethea Boulware] first name backwards, is a line that focuses on uniqueness, eccentricity, and standing out.

From huge colored necklace to tye-dyed jean shorts, Aehtelayt is all about making BOLD fashion statements.

To order some of these pieces and check out so much more from Aehtelayt, click HERE

REDDLIPSTCK APPROVED: I love this line because it's all about standing out! The Reddlipstick Blog is a blog based on BOLD femininity, so we love the creativity and "in-your-face-ness" about Aehtelyat!

REDD RANTS: I hate Job Interviews

The summertime is the perfect time to go out, find a job, and save up some money for the next school year: whether it be clothes, vacation money, or the money you're putting towards a car. We all want it, and we have nothing but time on our hands right now.

But MAN OH MAN, I HATE the job seeking process! You gotta go into the store, asking "Are you all hiring?" get an application, call them back, blah blah blah blah, and then FINALLY they call you back!

For an interview. The WORST part.

I am TOO awkward to SHINE during a JOB INTERVIEW!

REDD'S RISING STARS: Brianna Chevonne

Brianna Chevonne Nurse is an up and coming artist born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. She's been belting out strong vocals since the age of 2, and obviously there's even more to come.

She's signed with Arrow Records, & just released a single titled "All That I Need," which you can check out here.

Check out Brianna performing "Slow Motion" by Karina Parisan Below

Reddlipstick Approved: I am in full support of people trying to reach their dreams! Brianna is a very versatile and powerful vocalist with a strong will. I'm sure she will go far with her talents!

REDD'S RUNWAY: GB HUFFINGTON

GB Huffington, founded by four male students from Clemson University [Felix Wilson, Jeffery Akom, and Robert Miller III] is a clothing line based on simplicity. Although many clothing lines strive to be unique and loud, GB Huffington takes the minimalistic route, with a simple, yet complex message.

GB Huffington, the GB standing for George Brinkly (the alias of founder Robert) was originally supposed to be a clothing line that popped up; no one was supposed to know where it came from or who started it.

The founders hope for this clothing line to go far one day; and with this
new approach to fashion, quality clothing, and unique style, I'm sure it will.

Order your GB Huffington attire HERE

I love how the founders are taking a break against overly-eccentric clothing but still making a statement. It's a clothing line different from what I've seen, and for that I love it!

Dear Vibe ..

VIBE,
VIBE's 2012 Sexy Issue Cover Story
Ask anyone I know how strongly I felt about you featuring four Scantily-Clad Reality TV stars on the cover of your magazine with the caption "Meet Your New Role Models."

Now granted, I was more angry that you featured a certain two females on the cover than I was about the other two. I won't speak on it, but it's pretty obvious to anyone that has seen all four shows: this letter is more-so targeted to their appearance on this cover.

REDD REVIEWS: THE 2012 BILLBOARD AWARDS

**This review is not polished in the slightest. Just a random collection of my thoughts during the awards show.**

Last night, 5 mins before The 2012 Billboard Awards premiered, I was in the bed. Not really wanting to watch the awards, I remind myself that it was my journalistic duty, and like most award shows, I was going get into it, and glad I watched them.

I was sadly mistaken.

The Billboard Awards was like 3 hours of glitz, glamour, and a whole bunch of other things that made it seem like it was wayy longer than it should be. But what was the problem?

What Happened to The Game?

The Game, the Spin-Off from the TV Show Girlfriends, was the ground breaking show that was cancelled by The CW in 2009, and brought back by BET in 2011, debuting at 7.7 Million viewers.

Those faithful followers of The Game eagerly tuned in on January 11, 2011, but over time people became disappointed with the noticeable differences of the show. People no longer tune in with the same type of eagerness, and with last's night announced that the main characters, Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall leaving the show, it confirmed for people what everybody was quietly already thinking "The Game is Over."

But where did this negative connotation with such a popular show come from? What happened to The Game?

REDD'S RUNWAY: Ignorance Driven Knits

Developed by Claflin University Graduate Jordan Coburn, Ignorance Driven Knits is a clothing line developed to stomp out ignorance in the world with inspiring statements on stylish articles of clothing. From short and sweet messages such as "Wake Up," to longer, thought provoking ones like "Why am I the target? Because they fear your true power," to just the classic IDK logo, Ignorance Driven Knits is clearly Fashion with a Purpose.

Ignorance Driven Knits offers V-Necks, Crew Necks, Tank, Sweatshirts..etc. So Basically you can look stylish and counteract ignorance in any season.

Personally, I love the clothing line. The mixture of the simple yet fashionable designs and the depths of the messages are amazing. With so much negativity and ignorance in the world it's nice to be a walking poster board for positivity. The style of the clothing is very versatile: you can dress it up, or simply throw on a Hoodie and still turn heads. Evoking positivity while being stylish: Fashion with Intellegence.

Redd Rants: Trayvon Martin

Trayvon Martin. Now, as many of you may know, Trayvon Martin is the 17 year old boy who resided in Florida, who was shot to death by neighborhood watchmen George Zimmerman, for looking "suspicious". Zimmerman claimed to have done this in self defense, even though Trayvon was only carrying a bag of Skittles and Iced Tea. Now...

Trayvon Martin was probably looking suspicious for only two reasons: 1. Because he was wearing a hoodie, and 2. The most important reason, he was Black.

"But he bought me..." -When Guys use Gifts as Compensation.

Don't get me wrong, Reddlipstick Readers, every girl loves to be spoiled by their man every once in a while, I know I do. Whether it be by jewelry, flowers, clothes, purses, whatever that little guilty materialistic pleasure of yours is, it's always nice to receive them from your significant as a token of appreciation for his girl, right?
Of course, here comes the big butt. There are a lot of guys out their with great girlfriends that go out of their way to buy the mall out for their lady. And that is GREAT, FABULOUS, AMAZING. Unless... (and be careful with this one)
It could a cover up. Otherwise known as gifts for compensation. But, compensating for what? --Bitter females are going to have a field day with this post lol--

Why Twitter isn't as fun as it used to be.

Once upon a time, Twitter was just a cute little social network just like all the others, that was hard to figure out, not many people had, or wanted it, and you visited the site at the most, 3 times a day.

You Know, back when it was fun?

Over time, just as most social networks do, Twitter began to lose it's appeal. Well, maybe it's just me. But after I got into one too many Twitter arguments or got pissed off at too many subtweets or some girl boosting her own ego, I thought to myself  "Dang, I get upset myself on Twitter more than enjoy myself." But why? My argumenative nature? Partially. But what else?

Reddlipstick Remembers Whitney Houston

Saturday, February 11, 2012, The Icon, The Legend, The Soul Singer, and The Mother, Whitney Houston passed away.
Here on The Reddlipstick Blog, we will not reflect on anything but solely how the music touched us. I grew up with Whitney Houston's voice being in the background of all of my memories. With a voice so powerful, so strong and so God-Given, and with the humble personality that a lot of the bigger stars today missing, Whitney Houston definitely left her mark on this Earth and will truly be missed. Why the Braxtons are the best thing that happened to reality TV

With all of the negative images portrayed not only for African-Americans (especially Females) on Reality TV (& I do use the term "Reality" VERY loosely) WEtv's Braxton Family Values is definitely a breath of fresh air. I just finished watching the latest episode & I came up with these reasons gradually through the whole program. READ&INDULGE to find out why a dose of the Braxtons everyday might actually save you some brain cells.

REDD BLURB: DAY26 New Video

For the Writers:

Writing is beautiful. It is a fine art just as singing or dancing. The different in writing is that the beauty is not seen in the physical. The emotion that you get from the sound of a singer hitting all of the write notes or a dancer nailing all of her choreography has to be depicted without seeing, or hearing. What evokes the emotion you obtain from a great piece of writing is not tangible. The author must have such a way with words that you began to paint such a beautiful picture in your mind that the outcome is equivalent to that of going to a concert of any kind. Word by word must lace itself together unlocking parts of one’s imagination that they never knew they had, deeming it thought-provoking, and amazing. This must be achieved before anyone would think of writing being “beautiful”, and that’s the hardest part of it all.

XOXO-I.A.H.

Because my 1st interview with Jhene Aiko [that you can read HERE] was so well received, (and I love her music THAT much), that I just had to catch up with her again after her recent signing with Def Jam! *Cues Applause* This interview was meant to only be a few questions, but once I get to talking, well, you know. Redd Review: BlincInc Cosmetics

Hey Reddlipstick Readers! Now I'm not a makeup guru or anything, the only makeup you will probably see me with is for the lips and eyes (eye-shadow, eye liner, mascara, and lipgloss/lipstick), and maybe even bronzer on a special occasion. So I'm staying true to myself and reviewing BlincInc's Fountain of Youth Color Eye Shadow Primer and Icicle Eye Shadow.

The Primer: Now, for those of who don't know, Eye-Shadow Primer is to enhance the color of the eye-shadow, to keep the shadow on longer without fading, and to prevent creases, fading, smudging or running. It comes in two colors, light tone & flesh tone.

Outer Case:                                                                                             Primer:

The Eye-shadow:

My Experience: The Primer definitely made a clear difference when I used that before applying the eye-shadow; it went on way smoother. I've had this eye shadow on all day & it still looks just as good as it did when I first applied it. The Primer is a win! Plus, I'm in love with the color of the eye-shadow.

Before & After the use of the Primer (excuse my unkempt eyebrows)
My Concerns: I'm guessing if you plan to get the eye-shadow, getting the primer is required because the true color of the eye-shadow isn't seen without it. Even though I love the color, it shows on less vibrantly on my skin without the primer.

4.5 out of 5 reddlips: Even though there was the minor concern with the Eye-Shadow standing alone, together the products work pretty well. Definitely a must have for making a bold eye statement, and when you are going somewhere that requires a fresh eye look for hours!

How To Buy: Even though I didn't review them, blincInc also carries mascara, lash primer, eyebrow mousse, and more.  Check it out by clicking the link at the bottom of the post!

**If you have products you would like to me to review, or would like to suggest a product, feel free to contact me at the Contact Us Link at the top of the page.

XOXO!

REDD BLURB: BLUE IVY CARTER/ JAY-Z'S "GLORY"

The Reddlipstick Blogger stands for Beyonce', so it's only right to say congratulations to the power couple Beyonce Knowles and Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter on the birth of their new baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter! (Was originally Ivy Blue Carter, which I liked better anyway, but I feel as though the baby will end up being called "Ivy" regardless.)

Shortly after the birth, Jay-Z somehow managed to record a song dedicated to the new born, called Glory. In the song he released some details about the events leading up to the birth, such as Blue being conceived in Paris, and Beyonce' even having a misscarriage before. WHAT?

Listen below. I know how some my readers feel like I always do Beyonce' overkill on the blog, but after this, I have one more Beyonce' post I've been ITCHING to release. Stay tuned for that ;)

REDD RANTS: Kobe Vs. Vanessa

--This rant is in no way, shape or form, polished.

Alright, I've had it. I've tried to keep my hostile opinion on my stance of the divorce of Kobe and Vanessa Bryant under 160 characters on Twitter, but all of the (in my opinion) ignorant comments and thought processes that I've encountered about the situation is enough to make me want to do a rant about it. I can't deal so I'm just going to say my piece about this, once and for all.
