Why the Braxtons are the best thing that happened to reality TV

With all of the negative images portrayed not only for African-Americans (especially Females) on Reality TV (& I do use the term "Reality" VERY loosely) WEtv's Braxton Family Values is definitely a breath of fresh air. I just finished watching the latest episode & I came up with these reasons gradually through the whole program. READ&INDULGE to find out why a dose of the Braxtons everyday might actually save you some brain cells.

1. They actually have talent- The NY post agrees with me on this one, stating that the Braxtons are "Like the Kardashians --except with talent." No offense to the Kardashians I guess, but the Braxtons provide the same sibling rivalry and lead the same lavish life (maybe a tad more modestly) without leaving you wondering "What do they do again? Why do they get paid? Job, what job?" All of the sisters are very talented, as well as their mom, who taught them how to sing. Hello, this IS the family that produced the icon Toni Braxton.

2. No Pointless fighting--When watching shows like Basketball Wives, with women throwing their drinks, as well as punches, basically acting a fool, it adds fuels to the stereotype that Black Women are overly aggressive, and always "ready to fight" -_- the most fighting you'll see here is a heated argument between the sisters. Nothing you don't see at home if you have one.

3. Relatable-- With each one of the Braxton Sisters having their own personality, it cuts out the chance that Black women are portrayed in a false light. With so many different personalities and backgrounds on the show, it's almost pertinent that you, or somebody that you are close to, can relate to at least ONE of the characters.

4. No Forced Storylines-- You can always tell when directors randomly lure a main character of a reality show conveniently in a resturaunt with their arch nemesis. Or, maybe even stage a "love interest", or shoot, even a marriage for ratings. Even though of course the show has to be tweaked for TV purposes, it's nothing so outlandish as to where you feel like you are watching a Soap Opera. It's more of the simple happenings in their everyday life that makes the show interesting, and you don't end up getting that same headache that you do at the end of the reality show where some really CRAZY stuff went down. Bottom line, it's believeable.

5. Family Friendly- With the exception of the episode where Trina explicity explains her sexcapades at the table with her family ( Ms. E definitely got on her about that anyway), you don't have to worry about putting your 10 year old to bed before you can catch up on this show. Occasional swear words are bleeped out, and the actual context that they are used, or even the storylines in gerneral are not too much for the younger ones.

6. Family Values- The title says it all. Through all of their sisterly bickering and colliding ego's, the girls never forget what's the most important on the show-their family. Even though the mother, Miss E., is a divorcee, the sisters make an effort to still have the relationship with their dad. Some of the sisters are in marriage problems right now, but instead of throwing in the towel, each couple seeks counseling. When the sister's were JUST about to let the success of the show get to them, they set out on a sisters' retreat. And if they get TOO out of line, Miss E. will bring them back to size. On the most recent episode when Tamar's husband was in intensive care, the whole family rushed to New York. At the end of the day, you'll find the family laughing, bonding and letting the world know that family comes first.

Catch Braxton Family Values every Thursday at 9pm/8pm CST on WEtv!
