Interview W/ Elle Varner!

23 year old Gabrielle Varner, singer of "Refill" and "I Only Wanna Give It To You", graced the presence of my University last night for Homecoming! We were super excited to have her!

I had the pleasure of talking to Ms. Varner about her music, her possible upcoming single, being bullied, her relationship status and she even hit her Whistle Register for me! (The highest note on the piano-Mariah Carey does it all of the time).

And Ladies, you KNOW I had to ask her about her Natural Hair Care Regimen. What does she use on those curls?

I: I was reading about you earlier, and I noticed that a lot of your songs tell stories. What is the story that you want people to know the most about you that you tell through your music?

E: The story that I want people to know most about me is that I came from very humble beginnings. I came from a working class family. I came from being bullied and a lot of things I wasn't privileged to have...I was privileged to have parents that encouraged me in the arts, in different ways so... even if I couldn't do everything that the other kids were doing, I was doing things that they weren't doing

I: So you were bullied, so you used singing as an outlet?
E: mmhmm, absolutely. 

I: What advice do you have for other young people that are in that situation? I know that you said you were the underdog.. you know, people that are just trying to make it but are going through a lot, what advice do you have for them?

E: You just to believe in yourself so much to persevere  because it can be so hard, you might want to give up at any time.

I: And another fun question, a lot of people are really envious of your hair! What's your hair care regimen?

E: Hair care regimen .. I use Clear Ultra Shea, a new product line, and I use.. and I really try to let my curls dry naturally, but like today they didn't dry in time for the show, so that's why it's kinda big. (laughs)

I: I like Big Hair! Are you in a relationship?

E: Nope.

I: Are you looking? Or are you just..

E: I'm not looking for a relationship, I'm single. 

I: Oh, alright! (laughs) What's your favorite song on the CD?

E: My favorite song is on the CD is umm..

I: I feel like "Not Tonight" is a big hit.

E: Yeah, I hope that's the next single.

I: Oooh, I like that one, my favorite is "Sound Proof Room".

E: Oh Yeah.

I: Yes! I love it. What's your favorite physical feature about yourself?

E: My favorite physical feature would have to be.. my lips.

I: Mine too! (laughs) Ok, just one more quick question because I know you have things to do. Who's your favorite artist of all time?

E: Oh Gosh of all time? Umm.. I don't know if I can do of all time.

I: One of your favorites then.

E: One of my favorites? Um... Diana Ross.

I: Ok. One more for the road. When did you first realize you love music?

E: When I was probably 9 years old in church.

I: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind as an artist?

E: I want to leave behind such a large body of music for generations to come. To learn from, appreciate, experience.. I want to be one of those artist that make an impact.
