Addictions and other Vices

Truth is, everyone has a personal demon. Unfortunately, Today Amy Winehouse lost her battle with hers, which was drug abuse. The sad part about this is, she's not the first person who has. But, the even sadder part is that people are blaming her "self-destructive" behavior for her death, saying that it was her own fault, and that her actions led to those consequences.

Her behavior was self-destructive yes, but saying that her death was her own fault, and others that were in this situation, is very judgmental to say the least. Most people who find themselves battling with serious conditions such as addiction don't plan for it to go that far. The easiest thing an outsider looking in could say is "well, she shouldn't have began  drugs in the first place".

MY problem here is, why are so many people acting as if they were there preventing the whole addiction from happening? Addiction is a VERY serious condition, and not just drug addiction either. Abusing Sex, Alcohol, and even food to name the VERY least could all become self-destructive behavior. Things alot of the people who felt the need to accuse those who abuse drugs, do every single day.

No, I have never done drugs nor had an addiction, but I have seen the effects that it has had on numerous people, even celebrities. Especially marijuana usage.

The people who do these drugs and have these addictions were once just like alot of us. Until they expose their body to some of these destructive substances. The battle after that becomes strictly their will to stop, and if it gets worse,it becomes the will of the people around them to help them.

Substance abuse is not the only form of addiction. People can be addicted to feeling unhealthy emotions, such as discouragement or fear. People can be addicted to money, losing the real value in life. People can be addicted to the past, not progressing in life. People can be addict to work, anything. Addiction comes in all forms. They are your vices trying to defeat you.

Preventing situations like this and overcoming ones that are happening comes from prayer in my beliefs. Don't allow negative forces to bring you down and continue your lives purpose for what it really should be. Face and overcome these vices head on.

Most Importantly, do not judge the ones around you. You don't know how they got to where they are. If you feel the need to do so, take a look within yourself.

XOXO,
