Why Kelly Rowland's Transparency is Greatly Appreciated

By: India Hill
Kelly Rowland releases another soon-to-be hit record with her new single “Dirty laundry.” a raw ballad where she speaks of private issues she’s dealt with over the years, such as being in an abusive relationship, and feeling jealousy over her former group mate, Beyoncé.
The record is very deep and surprising, as she sings that her former abuser told her “Don’t Nobody Love You but Me, Not Your Mama, Not Your Daddy and Especially Not Bey,

The transparency in the song is greatly appreciated by fans. Kelly Rowland puts herself out there in a way where a listener wouldn’t scrunch up their nose and say “Too Much Information,” but nod their head and sing along as they reminisce on a place in their lives where they've been before, or trying to get out of presently.
Kelly Rowland is relatable. We’ve watched her blossom into a beautiful butterfly from Destiny’s Child, to beginning her solo career with her debut album Simply Deep, to rooting her for as her recent single Motivation quickly shot up to the top of the charts and became a platinum record. This record makes us appreciate her struggle even more. We appreciate the fact that she loves us enough as listeners to let us into her personal life.
In a world where a lot of celebrities put on a “Never Let Em See You Sweat” front on for their fans, never missing a beat or showing any low points, while other abusive transparency by showing us parts of their life that fans really don’t care to see, that are detrimental to their career.. Kelly Rowland is a happy medium.
The record then beings to make you wonder: “Oh, is the inspiration behind the singles Girl and Bad Habit on Destiny’s Child’s album “Destiny Fulfilled’?
“Is this why Kelly Rowland was the only group member from the original Destiny’s Child who stayed behind after countless allegations of mistreatment by Matthew Knowles? Did she not realize her self worth back then?”
Whatever the case may be, we are glad that Kelly Rowland is out these bad situations that she sings about. I will continue to root for Kelly Rowland as she continues to rise up into her moment in the sun.

Kelly's album, Talk a Good Game, releases June 18th.
