Powerhouse Voices in Genre's Other than R&B

Reminiscent of the powerful voices such as the late Teena Marie, Christina Aguilera, and Mariah Carey, these girls have it. But the soulfulness and passion in their voices may not be recognized by the R&B heads today because these women aren't just singing R&B or soul music; they're singing pop, they're singing soft rock, they're acting on children's television, or hailing from Europe-- If you like Adele and Kelly Clarkson's voices, you'll love these girls.
Read&Indulge as we discover some of the big, soulful voices coming from these young girls.

ARIANA GRANDE-- Staring as the ditzy red-head character Cat Valentine in Nickeoldeon's Victorious, Ariana Grande has had her share of acting and singing. She's been on the Broadway stage at age 15, and is currently working on her first album. She's been caught REDD handed singing Lady Marmalade with Patti LaBelle herself, who called her "The best voice she's ever heard in her life." She also nails the Whistle Register in her official cover of Mariah Carey's "Emotions". She can also be heard teaming up with rapper Mac Miller, covering Frank Ocean, and making Rihanna's "Only Girl in the World" her own by adding a 5

JOJO--Joanna Levesque made her debut to other Reddlipstick Readers my age about 7 years ago when her debut self-titled album released, along with her 1st single "Leave, Get Out". But for everyone else that wasn't yet hipped to the game, she made a strong comeback years after her second album "The High Road," with her cover of Drake's "Marvin's Room", which immediately went viral. Although she is taking an approach more seasoned with Rhythm and Blues this time around (Check her single "Demonstrate," produced by Noah "40" Shebib) she still manages to mix in music of all genres; this can be proven on her new mixtape, Agape, which just released last month. Jojo looks up to Jill Scott, a defnite soul singer, and also covered her song "Whenever You're Around" while under the weather, and sounded marvelous. With the release of her new YouTube Channel @JoJoOnline, she posted a cover of Andre 3000's Prototype.

JESSIE J- Jessica Cornish attended the BRIT School of Performance and Technology, the school that also produced heavyweights such as Adele and Leona Lewis, which should already say enough about her caliber. She's written for other artists such as Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus, and released her debut albums, "Who You Are," in 2011. Jessie J caught my eye wit her acoustic version of her single "Who You Are," and her powerhouse performance of "Mama Knows Best."

DEMI LOVATO- Demetria Lovato got her big start on the Disney Channel, from the mini-show "When the Bell Rings," to starring in the Disney Channel Original Movie "Camp Rock", where it became evident that she had amazing vocal skills. Although Demi's has had a couple of albums while partnered with the Disney Channel, she's spread her wings since then and released her 1st album since leaving Disney, "Unbroken", with tracks produced by Missy Elliot and Timberland. Demi's vocal range can be heard on any of her albums and certain covers, such as her re-endition of "Ain't No Way", by Aretha Franklin. She is currently a judge for the show, The X-Factor.
